Pho is an absolutely flavourful Vietnamese noodle soup usually made with beef. It is often served with bean sprouts and other fresh herbs on the side. The noodles of the pho soup are not ramen, they are made up of rice. There are a few varieties of pho and one of them being pho nam, which originates in Southern Vietnam, and pho bac, which is from Northern Vietnam and considered to be the original pho.
History of Pho
Pho originated in the Nam Dinh and Hanoi regions of North Vietnam in the late 1880s. It is believed the original pho, is made by boiling beef bones for several days and preparing a simple broth. The broth is accompanied only rice noodles and thinly sliced beef. The word pho comes from feu which is a french word . Pho nam is usually made with a broth that is seasoned with many spices and heavily garnished with fresh herbs such as bean sprouts, basil, and coriander. Pho nam became popular in southern Vietnam and is sold by street vendors.

How is it eaten
Pho is served with a bowl of broth and rice noodles and is accompanied by a plate of sliced beef and basil, cilantro, radishes, chilies, and lime. You can adjust the pho according to your preference. If you go to a restaurant that serves pho then you will see more condiments which are served with it.

How to make pho soup with beef or chicken

To make the tasty pho soup you need to start by cooking the rice noodles. Meanwhile, place pan on the stove. Season the meat with salt and pepper. Now put the meat onto the pan and cook for 2-3 minutes. Add the onion and ginger to the pot and cook for some time. Add the broth, 3 cups water, star anise and cinnamon, reduce the heat and let it simmer. Thinly slice the scallions and jalapenos and chop the cilantro. Slice the meat and drain the noodles. Now Add the fish sauce to the broth and boil 5 minutes. Discard the ginger, star anise and cinnamon stick. Now top the soup with beef.chicken, scallions, cilantro, bean sprouts, jalapenos and onion. Your pho soup is ready to be relished.

How to make a vegetarian pho soup (Pho Chay)

The process the make a vegetarian pho soup is same as the one with beef or chicken the only difference is that instead of meat we need to add vegetables in it. People who eat vegetarian pho prefer adding a lot of mushroom to it.The broth also is made up of the vegetables.
